Legend’s Drive to the Hills Trip Guide, Sept. 25, 2010
Register by sending me an email at dee@mts.net or call me at 324-7569 (days) or my home phone number, 324-8631 (evenings). Everyone is welcome, and you don’t have to belong to any car club to join us. Any car, truck, motorcycle, bus or motorhome is eligible. The route is meant to take in as much of the fall colours as possible. Please register by Thursday, Sept. 23rd as we need the numbers so we can pre-plan the amount of food we need.

10:30 AM is registration at the Sun Valley Co-op Parking Lot in Altona. Someone will be taking your $20 and giving you back a voucher or wrist band for the banquet at Holiday Mountain in La Riviere which is our final destination. $3.00 of this will be donated to James and Loretta Thiessen, who are our recipients of the MS fund raiser this year. See their story attached. We will also be passing the hat for them at the banquet at Holiday Mountain.

11:00 Burgers are served as part of your package and beverages. Your cooks are “Team Toews”, Gerald and Linda. We owe them a huge thanks as well as Sun Valley Co-op for their food donations, so we can make this fund raiser happen.

12:00 PM: We leave for our tour enjoying the fall colours and the beauty of our province.  Our route will take us north of Winkler to Roland and then west on Hwg. 23. Winkler Club members/friends will join us at the Janzen Pontiac lot. Our Carman friends can join us at the Jordan Corner. It is a 2 hour scenic tour down past the wind turbines at St. Leon, where we will stop for 15 minutes for those who want a picture. 10 minutes from there is a junction of Hwg. 23 and 34. For those who need a potty break or gas can they can do so at the 4C station on the north side of the road.

2:30 PM: Driving down into the valley at Ninette, we come upon another well kept MB secret, beautiful Pelican Lake. At the first stop sign, note there is a gas station, left side. You can fill up there or turn left to the first stop sign. Straight ahead will lead you to the Yacht Club and if you want to fill up, the second gas station is to the right. We will be joined by cars belonging to local car people and be there about an hour and a half. For those who haven’t paid, we will collect $20 and give you a voucher for the Holiday Mountain banquet (Roast beef and mashed potatoes, baked ham and scalloped potatoes, Bernie’s famous meatballs, salads ……lots more.)

4:00 PM: Leaving the parking lot, turn left and go up the hill to the first junction again turning left (south) towards Killarney. We turn east on PR253E on the Pleasant Valley road. We will have a Pembina Valley photo opportunity (15 minutes), before arriving at the village of Glenora, home of the world’s smallest mall. A 30 minute stop and then on to our final destination, the Holiday Mountain Resort in La Riviere, eta. will be 5:30 PM. Enjoy the day. Don Elias (chair).

36th Annual Piston Ring World of Wheels, Mar. 25-27, 2011

A few highlights from the World of |Wheels show in March.
The most exiting part of the show for me was finally arriving on the floor knowing "The Car is finally Done"!
We got a chance to meet Gene Winfield, builder of many world famous hot-rods. He loved the Chrysler!
The Chrysler was met with much approval from the public and many fellow competitors.Partly due to the fact that it is not a common car to build as a street machine. They commented on the the blending of old and new from the custom Ultra leather interior, to the stock appearance of the engine compartment to the custom Billet Specialties wheels. The Judges spent considerable time on the car on several occasions throughout the weekend. We won the Conservative Hardtop class and also won a street achievement award. We also qualified to enter the Meguiars "Best of the best" contest.
Meguiars Canada announced at the Awards ceremonies that they will sponsor a "Best of the best" award from the qualifying class winners of Winnipeg, Toronto, and Quebec City world of wheels shows. The grand prize winner (as determined by the public vote from across Canada) will receive an all expense paid trip to SEMA to display the winning car in the Meguiars booth with other winners from across North America. Prime Steel 29th Annual Car Show, April 9-10, 2011

Friday afternoon Cornie Sawatzky and I headed down I- 29 to attend this great show in Grand Forks, ND. Cornie had their newly acquired ’67 Chevelle and I took down our ’55 Porsche Replicar. Thanks again to  Kyle Dyck for loaning us his fully flamed Legends logo’d Mustang hood to identify the Legends Car Club.

This year the show moved from the Alerus Centre back to the former location of the Purpur/Gambucci Arenas. The reason was price. The Alerus Centre raised their fee to $17,000 for the weekend, and the Arena board charged Prime Steel only for utilites which was about $1100. Since all monies earned goes back to the community, this made a lot of sense.

This show is always well attended and the 28 member Prime Steel Club does a great job of hospitality and special features at their show. Wearing a special wrist band gains you entry to the hospitality room with complimentary coffee, water, soft drinks and snacks for both days. Free lunch is also part of the deal; wild rice and chicken soup on Saturday, and great chili on Sunday.

Saturday afternoon is always Garage Tour time and the busses provided a full afternoon of touring, snacking, and seeing treasures only car guys and gals can appreciate. At Rydell Chev, we were able to see the projects in the Toy Shop and personally meet Wes Rydell, the founder and owner of this and many other GM dealerships in the US. Wes also came to the Legends booth and he and I had a long chat about Drag Racing as he used to come up to Keystone and Bison Dragways as an active racer in years gone by. He is also interested in coming to our Airport Drags as a spectator.

Our Club did well with a 1st place and special mention award. A great show, and lots of fun as we headed north back to Canada, lots of water beside the highway and home.
